Is it time to replace your window treatments?

For the most part, you really don’t have to worry about cleaning or maintaining your window treatments.

Unlike something such as your blankets and sheets, for example, window treatments just aren’t going to get a lot of usage, aren’t going to collect a tremendous amount of dust, Venetian blind owners may question me on that one, and aren’t going to be subjected to a lot of wear or tear.

But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t clean your blinds and your curtains from time to time – or that they shouldn’t be replaced frequently as well!

To help you better understand when it’s time to pitch your old window treatments and buy new blinds we put together this quick list of tips and tricks to help you out. Let’s dive right in.

Are you dealing with a safety hazard?

Believe it or not, blinds and curtains can present a safety hazard – especially if they haven’t been replaced or maintained as well as they probably should have been.

Loose cords and loose bits of fabric can cause strangulation issues with young children, but dogs and other pets can also try and taste these loose pieces and end up causing significant obstructions and threaten their health considerably.

If your blinds or window treatments are showing their age it’s time to get rid of them.

Are you dealing with discoloration?

The right blinds, right curtains, and the right window treatments are going to add a tremendous amount of style and visual design to your space. But if they look a little bit worse for wear and discolored they are going to drag the overall look and feel of your spaces down as well.

If your window treatments look “mature” it’s probably time to replace them.

Are they difficult to operate?

There are only a few things more frustrating than trying to get proper blinds and window treatments to behave the way that they were designed to, to go up and down smoothly and to lock into position when and where you want them to.

You don’t want to have to fight your window treatments every single time you go to open a little bit more light or block some off in your spaces, and that’s why you’re going to want to replace these window treatments when they start to cause you real headache and hassle from an operations standpoint.

At the end of the day, the odds are pretty good that you just know when it’s time to swap out your old window coverings for new ones.
